The only maintenance needed is to wipe down the solar panel with a damp cloth periodically, and to change out the rechargeable batteries as required, every 2 to 3 years.

4" x 4" and 3.5" x 3.5" adapters, are included with your purchase. You will use the mounting base as it is received with actual 4x4 vinyl or pvc posts, and insert the adapter to install on your 3.5x3.5 nominal wood fence posts.
